John Foster and his wife, Joy, relocated to North Carolina in 2004 following Brother Foster’s graduation from the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies, formerly known as the East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions.
Brother Foster left the Presbyterian denomination and obeyed the gospel of Christ at the age of 19 while attending Florida A&M University in 1987. His personal experience with campus ministry developed in him a deep passion for evangelism and outreach, particularly among young people. At the same time, he recognizes and embraces the biblical truth that every soul is precious in the sight of God.
Brother Foster has served as a full-time evangelist for more than 22 years. He and Joy have been actively involved with the spiritual family of the High Point church of Christ since the congregation was established in April 2021. Prior to relocating to North Carolina, Brother Foster served as an assistant minister with the Scarboro church of Christ in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, under the leadership of Brother Lonnie Smith Jr.
Brother Foster met his wife, Joy, while attending the University church of Christ in Charlotte, North Carolina. They have been married for more than 24 years. Sister Joy is a licensed counselor and has been a devoted helpmate and partner in the work they have been blessed to undertake for the body of Christ.
Brother Foster is also a certified life coach with a background in counseling. Prior to entering full-time ministry, he worked as a social worker in Charlotte, where he provided comprehensive family services and conducted child abuse investigations. Drawing upon their combined professional and ministry experiences, John and Joy have worked together to promote community outreach and support the growth of multicultural congregations.
Both understand the privilege and responsibility of serving in the kingdom of Jesus Christ, and they look forward to continuing to serve God’s people for as many years as the Lord allows. Their desire is to remain faithful servants while reaching the lost, strengthening families, and encouraging the saints.
The Fosters have also been blessed with opportunities to participate in domestic and international missionary work, serving in several states throughout the southeastern United States, as well as in India and Brazil.
Brother Foster currently conducts Bible studies at local nursing homes, a drug rehabilitation center, and on college campuses. He has also been invited to speak at gospel meetings, lectureships, and other gatherings hosted by congregations throughout the brotherhood. He and Sister Joy remain eager to travel and support opportunities to advance the work of Christ and His kingdom whenever the Lord provides an opportunity to reach the lost and edify the saints.
Their lives and ministry reflect the words of the psalmist:
“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
— Psalm 84:10
